Confirmed Team News: New look front three named for Crystal Palace friendly

Roberto Firmino, Darwin Ninez

Liverpool have named another heavily rotated starting eleven against Crystal Palace with captain Jordan Henderson starting in midfield.

Klopp opted to change most of his starting line-up from the Manchester United friendly earlier in the week, with only Luis Diaz, Harvey Elliot and Roberto Firmino retaining their place.

With 21 substitutes on the bench, it’s likely we will see most of those players feature.

That will surely include star names such as Mohamed Salah, Darwin Nunez, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Who Misses Out?

Liverpool will miss Alisson, Diogo Jota, Joe Gomez and Melkamu Frauendorf for this friendly due to small knocks picked up in training.

Jota has suffered a more serious injury with reports claiming he may have injured his hamstring again.

The Portuguese international had only just got the green light to begin training again this week, but after Wednesday day of training he pulled up with the injury.

If it is a recurrence of the same injury from over a month ago then the ex-Wolves forward may miss the start of the season.

How Liverpool Set-Up

Liverpool set up in their standard 4-3-3 formation but the main difference from the graphic above is that Oxlade-Chamberlain may be in CM with Elliot on the right wing – as he was against United.

The Ox works better as a box-to-box ball-carrying midfielder and would compliment Curtis Jones playing as the more advanced attacking midfielder in the three-man midfield.

Diaz and Firmino start again up front, which may be a hint towards Klopp’s plans for the opening few games of the season at least.

Ibrahima Konate and Joel Matip feature together in a rare partnering with all the big names on the bench likely to feature in the second half of action.
