“Completed by the end of the weekend at the latest”: Medical scheduled for 21-year-old as deal reaches advanced stages

Neco Williams

The news of Nottingham Forrest reportedly agreeing a fee of around £17m for Liverpool’s Neco Williams is just another example of shrewd business done by the Reds.

Neco Williams is putting the finishing touches to a move to Nottingham Forest and is expected complete his switch “by the end of the weekend at the latest,” reports Football Insider.

Williams, 21, has featured 33 times for Liverpool and only 13 times in the Premier League but the Reds have managed to receive a good amount of money for the transfer.

With the departure of previous sporting director Michael Edwards, a potential worry for fans, new director Julian Ward has picked up where Edwards left off with the signings and contract renewals made this summer.

Seasons of good planning and carefully considered transfer business have seen Liverpool grow into a powerhouse of a club domestically and in Europe which doesn’t look to be slowing down any time soon.

The sale of Williams has seen Forrest agree to pay over the odds for a player with limited league experience.

The right-back has been replaced by Aberdeen’s Calvin Ramsey; an 18-year-old right-back prodigy seen as a better prospect than the former Liverpool youth player in Williams.

He was signed for a low fee of £6.5m in what is another example of good business.

This means Trent Alexander-Arnold will get ample rest time across the season and a bright new talent, who possesses the qualities needed to play in this Liverpool team, can deputise in that right-back position.

New director Ward has hit the ground running since Edwards’ departure; the signings of Darwin Nunez, Ramsey and Fabio Carvalho have been joined by contract extensions for Jurgen Klopp, Mohamed Salah and now Joe Gomez.

Precise planning and execution have seen Liverpool become an elite-level club once again, following years of poor planning and transfers which saw them struggle for top four football for years.

Compare that to the signing of players who’ve developed into world-class players across the years such as Salah, Roberto Firmino and Andy Robertson (to name a few) and it really has been an incredible period for the club.

Seen as a ‘sell to buy’ club, Liverpool have finessed the system once again and look set to continue running this efficiently for years to come.

The Reds have always received advantageous transfer fees for any of their players looking to leave.

Recent years have seen them receive €160 million back in 2017 for Philippe Coutinho (credit to Barcelona) £64.98 million (€82.3 million) for Luis Suarez and even €41 million for Sadio Mane –  a player who was in the final year of his deal.

That money has been re-invested by signing the likes of Alisson and Virgil van Dijk with the Merseyside club rarely missing the mark.

With this sustainable model in place and young quality players across the Liverpool squad, Klopp’s side could be set for years of continued sustainable success.
