Liverpool want Christopher Nkunku as the ‘perfect’ Sadio Mane ‘solution’ and have scouted the ex-PSG star as he shines in Germany and Europe.
The Frenchman has been incredible this season. 17 goals and 12 assists is an incredible return for a forward and yet, Nkunku has operated in a number of positions for manager Domenico Tedesco.
Fichajes claims that the ‘possibility’ of signing Nnunku from Leipzig “is getting bigger and bigger for a €50m fee” as Sadio Mane’s contract nears its expiry in June 2023 with a contract extension yet to be agreed or reported as being on the table in the near future.
While he’s touted as the perfect replacement for Sadio Mane, he could play anywhere in the front three and could play as a false nine, no.10 and as a no.8 for Jurgen Klopp and so if he’s genuinely available for just €50m, Liverpool need to act fast.
The Reds have signed Naby Keita, Takumi Minamino and Ibrahima Konate from RB Leipzig in the last few years but Nkunku might just be the most exciting talent out of the bunch based on his form over the last two years.
He’s 24 so he’s in that sweet spot that FSG like to shop in and last season, he got a very respectable 7 goals and 11 assists but just 1 goal and 2 assists came in the Champions League which led some to suggest he was stat-padding in the Bundesliga.
This season, however, he’s got 17 goals and 12 assists which is just ridiculous. 7 goals and 2 assists of that return have come in Europe which proves that he’s not just exploiting the Bundesliga.
Beyond his obviously incredible attacking output, Nkunku is also intelligent off the ball and would be a fantastic player in Jurgen Klopp’s counter-pressing unit and I think he’d only make the Reds more efficient out of possession.
In transition, he’s quick, skilful and efficient with the ball and doesn’t take unnecessary touches which is evidenced by his high attacking output.
Liverpool need to do everything they can to sign him if Klopp wants him.
