Celtic have submitted a second transfer offer for Haissem Hassan, according to reports from Egyptian outlet Ghomuria, as the club steps up efforts to land the winger.
Hassan emerged as one of the breakout stars of the 2026 World Cup, playing a key role in Egypt’s impressive run to the last 16 of the tournament.
Egypt’s campaign came to an end against finalists Argentina, losing 3-2 despite holding a 2-0 lead, a result that showcased Hassan’s quality on the biggest stage in world football.
The winger plays his club football for Oviedo, whose relegation from La Liga this season triggered a significant drop in his release clause from £16 million down to £10 million.
Celtic’s opening offer of £3.4 million was firmly rejected by Oviedo, who initially insisted they would hold out for the full £10 million release clause fee.
However, that hardline position appears to have softened in recent days, raising hopes that a deal can now be pushed over the line.
Oviedo sporting director David Fernandez offered a more flexible tone when speaking to media in Spain, saying: “We are here to make the best sporting decisions and have the best possible team. I don’t control the financial aspects.”
Fernandez added: “We want the best players, but the market will determine when we finalise the squad.”
Celtic boss Martin O’Neill had previously acknowledged progress was being made on transfer targets following the club’s failure to land Kelechi Iheanacho and Boca Juniors full-back Marcelo Saracchi.
The only new signing brought in who was not already at the club last season is Colombian striker Camilo Duran, leaving supporters eager for further additions to the squad.
A lack of transfer activity contributed to fans staying away from Saturday’s pre-season friendly at home to Middlesbrough, piling pressure on the club to move quickly in the market.
Ghomuria’s report that a “huge” second offer has now been submitted suggests Celtic are serious about making Hassan their marquee summer signing ahead of the new campaign.
