Celtic are reportedly in advanced discussions to host AC Milan in a high-profile pre-season friendly at Celtic Park this summer.
The match is said to be pencilled in for Saturday, July 25, with leading Italian outlet Gazzetta dello Sport, via MilanNews.it, claiming the two clubs are close to agreeing terms.
Milan would then depart for Asia, embarking on a tour of Australia and Indonesia just three or four days after the proposed Glasgow fixture.
The Italian giants are currently without a manager after Massimiliano Allegri was sacked for failing to secure Champions League qualification for the club.
Celtic’s main priority this summer remains resolving their own managerial situation, with Robbie Keane holding talks with majority investor Dermot Desmond.
Desmond is also set to sit down with interim boss Martin O’Neill about taking on the job permanently after O’Neill led the club to a Premiership and Scottish Cup double.
The glamour friendly would form part of Celtic’s pre-season preparations as they gear up for their bid to qualify for the Champions League in the upcoming campaign.
Celtic and AC Milan last met nearly 13 years ago in the group stages of the 2013/14 Champions League, with the Scottish side enduring a difficult double header against the Italians.
The Hoops lost 2-0 away at San Siro on matchday one before being hammered 3-0 by I Rossoneri in the return fixture at Celtic Park.
Celtic did famously overcome the Serie A heavyweights six years earlier, with a last-gasp winner from Scott McDonald giving them three points against Carlo Ancelotti’s reigning European champions in the 2007/08 competition.
Celtic have recent experience of playing Serie A opposition, claiming an impressive 2-2 draw away against Bologna back in January that helped them reach the knockout rounds of the Europa League.
Weeks before that result, they had lost 3-0 at home to Roma during Wilfried Nancy’s tenure, a run that saw the Frenchman lose six of his eight matches in charge.
