Celtic have secured the signing of SC Paderborn midfielder Mika Baur, with the German joining the Scottish champions on a four-year deal with an option for a further year.
The transfer package is worth up to €8 million in total, making Baur the most expensive player ever sold in Paderborn’s history.
According to Sky UK, Celtic will pay an initial fee of €5.25 million, with a further €2.75 million available through performance-related bonus payments.
The 22-year-old was released from training by Paderborn to conduct transfer talks as the two clubs worked toward finalising the move.
Baur’s medical was expected to take place as early as Wednesday, with Celtic’s most recent known offer having been just below the €5 million mark before the deal was improved.

Baur began his career with Freiburg before making the move to Paderborn in 2024, quickly establishing himself as one of the club’s most important players.
He spent the second half of the 2024/25 season on loan at Dynamo Dresden before returning to play a central role in Paderborn’s successful promotion back to the Bundesliga.
The German Under-21 international was named Paderborn’s Player of the Season for 2025/26 after contributing four goals and six assists throughout the campaign.
Despite Paderborn’s understandable reluctance to lose one of their standout performers so soon after winning promotion, Baur was open to taking the next step in his career by joining Celtic.
The midfielder’s arrival represents a significant investment by Celtic as they look to strengthen their squad ahead of Champions League competition this season.
