Celtic’s transfer window is showing significant signs of life, with multiple targets now moving closer to potential moves to Parkhead this summer.
Real Oviedo boss Julian Calero has signalled he is prepared to lose key first-team players as part of a strategic shift toward youth development at the Spanish club.
Speaking to media in Spain, Calero confirmed his preference for a leaner, younger squad, stating: “I don’t like large squads because of the problems they create.”
The Oviedo manager added: “Oviedo is a club that relies on its youth academy, and young players need to be given a chance when the first-team players aren’t playing.”
Calero also acknowledged the final say rests elsewhere, adding: “But that’s a decision for the club and the sporting director.”
Egypt World Cup winger Haissem Hassan has seen his release clause drop to £10million following Oviedo’s relegation from the Segunda Division last season.
That figure represents a significant reduction from his previous exit fee of £16million, making the wide man a far more attainable target for the Scottish Premiership champions.
Celtic are reported to have made an enquiry for Hassan as they seek a replacement for Daizen Maeda, who is edging closer to a move to Ipswich Town.
Hassan has also attracted interest from Saudi Arabia, meaning Celtic will need to act quickly if they are to secure the forward’s signature ahead of rival suitors.
Elsewhere, Celtic have revived interest in Bodo/Glimt striker Kasper Hogh, a target first pursued during the January transfer window earlier this year.
Norwegian outlet Avisa Nordland reports that the Denmark international has held “good discussions” with Bodo/Glimt bosses about a summer departure from the club.
The Norwegian side had previously raised their asking price following progress in the Champions League, but are now believed to be open to a sale at around £7million.
Celtic had signed Tomas Cvancara on loan from Borussia Monchengladbach in January when the club first entered the race for Hogh, but are now circling again for the striker.
A potential return for Kyogo Furuhashi is also gathering momentum, with the forward understood to be keen on moving back to Glasgow’s East End following his time at Birmingham City.
The 31-year-old won eight trophies during his time at Celtic before departing for Stade Rennes, and has since returned to British football with Championship side Birmingham City.
Kyogo managed three goals this season at City, and Birmingham boss Chris Davies has confirmed that an exit for the striker is now imminent.
Japanese outlet Gekisaka reports that Birmingham City have accepted they will not recoup anywhere near the £10million they paid for Kyogo, with their asking price now described as “cut.”
Celtic fans will be watching developments closely as the club works to reshape their attacking options ahead of another domestic and European campaign.
