Arne Slot made the bold decision to drop Mohamed Salah ahead of Liverpool’s trip to face West Ham over the weekend.
It was a move that could have easily backfired for Slot and could have potentially lost him his job if the Reds were defeated at the London Stadium.
However, Liverpool dominated proceedings and ran out as 2-0 winners with goals from Alexander Isak and Cody Gakpo ensuring Slot’s men got back to winning ways.
Due to the nature of the win and performance, it would seem like a risky decision for Slot to reinstate Salah into the starting XI on Wednesday night against Sunderland, with Ally McCoist making a massive claim regarding the Egyptian winger.
Mohamed Salah sale could fund two marquee January signings
It has been widely reported that Liverpool are in the market for a new winger in the January transfer window, with Everton’s Iliman Ndiaye being one of the names mentioned.
Antoine Semenyo is another wide player linked with a move to Liverpool, and McCoist feels that Liverpool should sell Salah in January if it means the Reds could get deals for both Semenyo and Marc Guehi over the line.
When asked on talkSPORT on 2 December whether Liverpool should accept a potential lucrative offer from Saudi Arabia for their talisman to fund moves for Guehi and Semenyo in January, McCoist replied:
“Yeah, on current form, that is a no-brainer of a decision.”
When discussing the 33-year-old’s recent form, McCoist also said:
“They should have benched him well before the weekend. I’ve seen him a good few times (this season), and the decline has shocked me, actually, to tell you the truth.”

Liverpool should sell Mohamed Salah, but only for the right price
Whilst Salah’s form has dipped this season for his exceptional standards, he still has four goals and two assists in 12 Premier League games this season.
If that were another player not called Salah, they would be said to be having a good season.
Although his numbers are still respectable, it is his performances that have been more concerning for those who attend Anfield on a regular basis.
With Salah being 33, Richard Hughes would be daft not to consider offers for the Egyptian, especially if they are in the region of £100million for a player evidently in decline.
Offers of around £50-60million or below should be instantly batted away, as it would be more worthwhile for Slot to use Salah as an impact player off the bench for the remainder of his contract.
