Jamie Carragher expects Mohamed Salah to renew his contract with Liverpool after the Reds extended the terms of several key players.

The Egyptian blanked against Chelsea aside from his penalty but he looked bright vs. Burnley and was electric against Norwich City on the opening day of the Premier League season.

His contract situation remains a question mark for the club but Jamie Carragher doesn’t think it’s something supporters should be concerned about.

Speaking to Sky Sports yesterday afternoon, via the ECHO, he said: “It’s not just about Jordan Henderson today, it’s about the group of players who have signed long-term contracts.

“I think Liverpool have some of the best players in the world, with Allison signing a six-year deal and Virgil van Djik. I think Mohamed Salah will be the next one to sign.

“In years gone by, certainly when I was at the club, if we had players of that quality, they would be going to Real Madrid or Barcelona.”

Salah is arguably Liverpool’s most important player and without him, it’s difficult to imagine where the Reds would be.

While it’s unfair to diminish the achievements of the rest of the squad and Virgil van Dijk rivals his importance to the squad, his goals are guaranteed season after season and in this market, they’re worth well over £125m to the right club.

If injuries favour Liverpool this season, we should see Salah hit the 20-goal mark in the Premier League for the fourth time in five seasons.

The only season he didn’t reach 20 was in the 2019/20 season and he got 19.
