Brondby sporting director Julius Ohnesorge has publicly confirmed that the Danish club are willing to sell midfielder Benjamin Tahirovic if the right offer arrives.
The 23-year-old has attracted significant transfer interest following an impressive showing at the World Cup with Bosnia and Herzegovina this summer.
Tahirovic featured in all four of his nation’s matches as they progressed from the group stage before suffering a 2-0 defeat to co-hosts USA in the last 32.
Celtic have been heavily linked with the midfielder, who previously played for Ajax and Roma before joining Brondby.
Borussia Dortmund have also been touted as potential suitors, adding to the growing speculation surrounding the player’s future.
Despite the intense rumours, Ohnesorge revealed that neither Celtic nor Dortmund have made any formal contact with the Danish club regarding Tahirovic.
Speaking to TV2, he said: “He’s just finished the World Cup and isn’t here right now, so we’ll look at the situation with him and his agent when he gets back.”
Ohnesorge added: “He can spend the summer talking to his family about what the next step will bring, whether it’s competing here in a strong squad or whether it’s at another club.”
The sporting director was clear on the conditions that would need to be met for any deal to progress, saying: “Yes, we are open but it’s about having the right solution ready.”
Ohnesorge continued: “There must be a clear interest from the player in a transfer as well as a clear interest from another club for an amount that is beneficial to us.”
Brondby have moved to strengthen their midfield in the meantime, completing the signing of Max Ejdum from domestic rivals Odense to provide cover in the number eight position.
The Danish club’s chief acknowledged the transfer rumours with a relaxed attitude, stating: “I haven’t heard from either Celtic or Dortmund and I don’t follow that kind of thing to be honest, but it’s always good to hear that there is interest in our players.”
Celtic recently secured their first signing of the summer window with the £6 million capture of striker Camilo Duran earlier this week.
The Premiership champions will be hoping to add Tahirovic to their squad, though Brondby’s position makes clear that any move must work for all parties involved.
