Fabrizio Romano says that Borussia Dortmund are in talks with Mino Raiola for Donyell Malen after saying that Liverpool are as well.

Replying to a PSV fan asking for an update on the 22-year-old forward, the journalist replied: “BVB talking with Raiola…”

The Italian said on his Twitch channel, via The Anfield Talk, that he learned that Liverpool are in talks with Raiola as well.

Liverpool transfer ball starts rolling

I’m excited! When you support a sell to buy a club as we do, then Liverpool closing on a deal to sell Taiwo Awoniyi and Marko Grujic already having sealed his move to Porto is exciting stuff!

This morning, Neil Jones reported that Liverpool are looking to recoup a combined total of £17million and both have left the Reds’ pre-season training camp to complete medicals.

Liverpool’s transfer priority, as revealed by Fabrizio Romano a month ago, is to sign a new attacker and if things go according to plan that could be Malen.

A verbal agreement over personal terms is in place with the striker but until now, it seemed unlikely that the Reds would make an offer.

The reason for this was two-fold. Liverpool’s transfer model requires them to generate funds for signings by selling players and the Reds also needed to free up non-homegrown spaces in the squad.

Now, with Awoniyi, a Nigerian striker, on the verge of and Grujic, a Serbian central midfielder, confirmed as having joined Porto, sporting director Michael Edwards may well be given the green light to make PSV Eindhoven an offer for Donyell Malen.

O Jogo reported on Sunday evening that Grujic was to be involved in a creative offer to PSV for Malen and while that now seems as though it could have been an agent leak to force Porto’s hand, Liverpool have funds to approach the Dutch side.

Malen move to Liverpool could gather pace

Anfield Central reported on the 24th of June that Liverpool were planning on opening talks with Malen and his agent Raiola.

At the time, we were told that PSV want £25million to sell Malen and if that’s still the case, Liverpool should not stall on making an offer.

With BVB looking for a replacement for Jadon Sancho, the Reds don’t want to be miss out on a player that is the ideal cover for Roberto Firmino.

Essentially, we’re now at the point where Liverpool making a move for Malen or not is purely up to them.

They have the funds (or at least most of them) and are no longer restricted by Premier League quotas on homegrown players.
