Barcelona and Real Madrid move to steal stunning £80m Liverpool target

Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes has been working hard behind the scenes to set up deals for the summer transfer window. However, the Reds are faced with the threat of losing one of their top targets to either Barcelona or Real Madrid.

The Merseyside giants have been proactive ahead of the summer transfer window, and are set to welcome the arrival of Jeremie Frimpong even before the season ends.

Liverpool have also moved fast on Florian Wirtz and appears to be the favourites to sign him over Bayern Munich, who are less confident now than they were a few weeks back.

The Reds are also in the market for a top defensive midfielder, but it seems they could lose out on their top target to one of the Spanish giants this summer.

Barcelona and Real Madrid want the top Premier League midfielder

Adam Wharton is now part of Crystal Palace folklore after he won the FA Cup last weekend at Wembley, but he is almost certain to leave for a bigger club soon.

Liverpool are interested in snaring him away from Selhurst Park this summer and are preparing to hold talks with Palace soon.

However, experienced scout Mick Brown has revealed Barcelona and Real Madrid are also interested in getting their hands on the England midfielder.

He also feels a move to Spain could suit him better than to a big Premier League club because of his ability to manipulate the ball with his passing range.

“Adam Wharton’s quality is unquestionable, there are no concerns there”, Brown told Football Insider.

“On the other side of things is his ability to cover the ground, and he seems to me to be a yard short in terms of covering the ground.

“In the Premier League, that’s very, very important.

“It’s something Declan Rice does incredibly well, for example, and the likes of Rodri can do it too.

“So that’s going to be a concern for the likes of Liverpool or Man City – albeit not a major one.

“From what I hear, both Barcelona and Real Madrid have been having a look at him.

“In Spain, both of those clubs are going to dominate the majority of games, and his ability to cover the ground is not such an important part of the game.

“The focus there is about whether you can play, and manipulate the ball, and that’s where Wharton thrives.

“I have that little question mark about him, but that’s not to take away from what I know his assets are, and those assets would be a good fit for the likes of Barcelona and Madrid.”

Crystal Palace are likely to demand as much as £80m before sanctioning his sale this summer.
