Liverpool are in the market for a new number 9, and a major part of their transfer budget will go into signing a striker. Sporting director Richard Hughes is looking at several options, but it seems one of his top targets has chosen Arsenal for his next destination.
Arne Slot and the Liverpool recruitment team identified Alexander Isak as the top target for Liverpool months back, but it seems he is unlikely to arrive at Anfield this summer.
Newcastle do not want to sell, and Liverpool are in no mood to pay over the odds to snare him away from the Magpies, despite their deep admiration for the Swede.
Liverpool have other alternatives, but one target wants to make them wait for a decision, and another priority option seems to be on his way to Arsenal this summer.

Top Reds target chooses Arsenal over Anfield move

Arsenal have been chasing a striker for the last few transfer windows, and Mikel Arteta is determined that he will sign a top number 9 this summer.
The Gunners are shopping in the same pool as Liverpool, and it seems they have gained a huge edge over the Reds in the chase for a top striker.
According to TalkSport, Arsenal’s Premier League rivals believe the north London club will win the race to sign Sporting Lisbon striker Victor Gyokeres.
Arteta made the former Coventry City hitman his top target early in the summer, and the club have been in talks with his representatives over a potential transfer.
Liverpool and Manchester United have also been keen on him, but it has emerged that the forward prefers a move to the Emirates Stadium over other options.
Sporting Lisbon are likely to demand as much as £70m for a striker who has scored 95 goals and assisted another 27 in 99 appearances in all competitions.
