Sources believe that Arne Slot eyes four players whom he will likely pick to play against Southampton on Tuesday. Liverpool begin their domestic cup campaign with a visit from the Saints.

Unbeaten in the league so far, Liverpool will likely field a heavily rotated side in the Carabao Cup fixture against the Saints.

In his post match comments after the Everton game Slot had made it clear that changes will be made. Players who have played each minute of Liverpool’s last five fixtures will be rested. This essentially rules out five players from Tuesday’s lineup.

The likes of Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konaté, Ryan Gravenberch, Dominik Szoboszlai and Mo Salah will be rested.

According to reporter Lewis Bower, the four players who were pulled from the U-21 side, will see game time on Tuesday.

There were no signs of Kieran Morrison, Tommy Pilling, Jayden Danns or Trey Nyoni for their U21s game against Manchester United. Bower thinks that this hints at their involvement in the upcoming fixture.

Providing an update on the missing player Bower said, “This could and I’d say, probably does, hint towards first-team involvement on Tuesday.”

Playing in both the Premier and Champions League last term; Danns would be looking to cementing his place in the squad. Nyoni is already a regular in the first team and would be trying to gain more game time for himself.

Meanwhile, impressing Slot would be the top priority for Morrison and Pilling, should they get into the action.

New signings to be involved as well

Not just academy players but new stars Giovanni Leoni and Giorgi Mamardashvili will be likely be making the first XI. Even star signing Florian Wirtz will be looking to get back into form with the fixture. Alexander Isak may find a place instead of the in form Hugo Ekitike

Currently in the Championship, Southampton have been struggling this season with just one win in their opening six matches. But cup games have always proven to be tricky, with the high and mighty often tripping up.

Liverpool will certainly be looking to avoid such as mishaps.
