Are Liverpool about to lose Trent Alexander-Arnold?

Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes has his hands full with new deal negotiations with three of his star players who are all out of contract at the end of the season. None of them has agreed on fresh terms yet but not all three are expected to leave in the summer.

Virgil van Dijk is much more likely to sign a new deal and extend his stay. The negotiations have gone smoothly between his representatives and Liverpool and they are now ironing out the details of the final agreement.

However, negotiations with Mohamed Salah have been difficult at best and fractured at worst. The player is annoyed that the club are yet to offer him a new deal and made his frustrations known to the media recently.

The forward is ready to even sign a one-year deal but he is now unsure whether Liverpool will ever agree to meet him halfway and offer him a contract that will please him.

But the priority for Liverpool has always been to ensure that they do not lose Trent Alexander-Arnold. He is 26 and is at the prime of his career.

However, noises coming out of the negotiations are not very positive and Real Madrid are prepared to make their move in January and offer him a formal contract.

The Reds are still not close to agreeing a new deal with Alexander-Arnold

The 26-year-old and his family’s love for Liverpool is a massive reason why Liverpool are confident of him signing a new deal with the club.

However, according to The Athletic, there has been no breakthrough in negotiations between Alexander-Arnold’s representatives and Liverpool over a new contract.

The talks are still ongoing but it is unusual that the defender will be free to hold conversations with his suitors in less than a month’s time and Liverpool are still nowhere close to finalising a new contract.

This will be music to ears for Real Madrid who have been steadily growing confident of signing the defender on a free transfer at the end of the season.

More alarmingly for the Reds fans, the possibility of potentially selling Alexander-Arnold in the winter window has also been raised at the highest level of Liverpool’s hierarchy.
