FSG were responsible for building the structures and hiring Jurgen Klopp, which led to Liverpool winning the Premier League and the Champions League in the last decade. They seem to have done well in replacing Klopp as well with Arne Slot leading the team to the summit of the Premier League table this season. However, the Americans have never been the most popular owners as Reds fans have always suspected that they never really allowed the club to realise their full potential.
FSG’s mantra of self-sustainability has been a major reason behind a section of the Liverpool fans never liking them as they feel in an era of state-backed football clubs, their model is out of date.
Liverpool fans felt that Jurgen Klopp was not backed enough when the club were going head-to-head with Manchester City in the title race. FSG have increased the capacity of Anfield, created an enviable recruitment team and have been solid in identifying managers since sacking Brendan Rodgers.
However, Liverpool fans remain suspect of FSG and some of them have always hoped that they would sell the club at some point, which seems unlikely at the moment.
Their decision to join the European Super League further drove a wrench in their relationship with the fans, which led to John W. Henry publicly apologising to the Liverpool supporters.
Liverpool’s lethargy last summer made FSG even more popular but they could have a real opportunity to prove their doubters wrong at the end of the season.
Florian Wirtz will be a statement signing from FSG
The 21-year-old attacking midfielder is expected to be the most wanted young player in the market next season. Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester City and Arsenal are interested in signing him.
Liverpool have also been keeping tabs on the young midfielder with a view to potentially signing in the next transfer window.
The Reds need some creative spark in the middle of the park despite the club being believed to be prioritising a defensive midfielder next summer.
If Liverpool want a creative midfielder, Wirtz would be the biggest statement signing they could bring in at the end of the season.
Can you name the team Liverpool sold these players to?
Some of the biggest clubs in Europe are pushing to sign him and Bayer Leverkusen are expecting to get more than €100m from his departure next summer.
Wirtz is almost certain to leave and clubs are queueing up to put forward their sales pitch to his camp in the coming months and Liverpool must get involved in the race.
FSG could make no bigger statement than beating Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester City and Arsenal to the signature of a €100m player.
