Liverpool are reportedly in the driving seat to sign Aurelien Tchouameni, according to Julien Maynard, ahead of Real Madrid and PSG.
The disappointing 1-1 draw with Tottenham perhaps paints the best argument for a new midfielder being signed this summer.
Fabinho is superb at breaking down play and stopping opponents in their tracks but he is somewhat limited on the ball and while it may be unfair to criticism him too much given how important he is to Liverpool’s play, having a backup wouldn’t hurt.
The Brazilian has played a lot of football this season and although he doesn’t seem to be too fatigued, rest and competition has never hurt.
Liverpool will already be have plans in place to get their top targets this summer and both Michael Edwards and Julian Ward will be hard at work to make sure negotiations are wrapped up swiftly.
According to Julien Maynard, it’s “advantage Liverpool” in the race to sign Tchouameni although the journalists reports his future “has not yet been decided” but PSG “are still hoping.
He reports: “But it is Liverpool and Real Madrid who hold the rope to welcome the international midfielder from Monaco next season (advantage Liverpool, for the hour).”
Signing the Frenchman, who would reportedly cost the Reds around €70million (£59m), it’s a move that could take Liverpool even further than they have this season and if the quadruple doesn’t happen this season, perhaps it could next season.
Beating both PSG and Real Madrid would also show just how far Liverpool have come under Klopp as they were routinely beaten to their top transfer targets before the German arrived.
