Rangers are closing in on the signing of Venezuela international forward Kevin Kelsy from Portland Timbers, with the 22-year-old set to travel to Glasgow to complete the deal.
The agreed fee is reported at $13 million, equivalent to around £9.5 million, plus add-ons and a sell-on percentage for the MLS club.
Personal terms between the player and Rangers have already been settled, smoothing the path toward a swift conclusion to the transfer.
Kelsy will travel to Glasgow to undergo a medical and finalise the paperwork once his visa arrangements have been confirmed and processed.
The move comes after manager Derek McInnes made no secret of his desire to add another striker to his squad before the September 3 deadline in Scotland.
McInnes was left scrambling for attacking reinforcements after Youssef Chermiti suffered a devastating ACL injury widely expected to rule him out for the remainder of the season.
Kelsy joined Portland Timbers for just under $6 million in January 2025 following his departure from Shakhtar Donetsk, and has since proven his worth at MLS level.
The young forward has scored 19 goals in 63 appearances for Portland, demonstrating the clinical edge and consistent form that attracted Rangers to the deal.
The transfer would make Kelsy the second most expensive signing in Rangers’ history, a distinction currently held by Norwegian striker Tore Andre Flo.
Rangers are also completing the signing of South Korean star Kim Min-su from Girona for a reported £8.5 million, meaning both deals together represent a significant financial commitment from the Ibrox club.
The double outlay underlines the ambition Rangers are showing in the current transfer window as they look to build a squad capable of competing on multiple fronts this season.
With the September deadline approaching, the club is moving quickly to finalise both transactions and bolster Derek McInnes’s options in attack and beyond.
