Aberdeen are preparing to ship out several fringe players before the transfer window closes, while simultaneously pursuing at least one more addition to their squad.
Australian international striker Kusini Yengi is among those expected to leave, having failed to make a meaningful impact since joining from Portsmouth last summer.
Yengi spent the second half of last season on loan at Cerezo Osaka, but that spell was heavily disrupted by injury and he has yet to feature under manager Stephen Robinson.
The striker has attracted overseas interest and Aberdeen chiefs are now in a holding pattern, waiting to see what concrete offers materialise for the player.
Winger Kenan Bilalovic is another squad member struggling to break into the first team, with clubs in Sweden and Scandinavia reported to be keen on securing his services.
Croatian midfielder Ante Palaversa has also been made available for transfer, though previous interest in him has since gone quiet with the window approaching its end.
The departures are part of a broader squad reshape at Pittodrie, with Aberdeen keen to move on players who are not featuring regularly under Robinson’s management.
On the incoming front, a midfield signing remains a priority, particularly after new arrival Brad Lyons picked up an injury that could keep him sidelined for several weeks.
St Mirren’s Killian Phillips has emerged as a target, and the Aberdeen hierarchy view him as a strong fit, but St Mirren’s £500,000 asking price remains a significant stumbling block in negotiations.
Phillips does hold an alternative option, as he could sign a pre-contract agreement with Aberdeen in January if a permanent deal is not concluded before the window shuts.
The situation at Pittodrie reflects a club in transition, balancing the need to trim a bloated squad while addressing clear gaps that have emerged in the wake of injuries and underperformance.
Aberdeen will be hoping to resolve both the outgoings and at least one key incoming before the window deadline, giving Robinson a stronger hand heading into the remainder of the season.
