Celtic have confirmed the signing of Colombian striker Camilo Duran from FK Qarabag, with the 24-year-old describing the move as a dream come true.
The Hoops have secured the forward in a deal worth £6 million, with Duran signing a five-year contract at Celtic Park.
The Colombian becomes Martin O’Neill’s first signing of the summer transfer window and will wear the number 11 shirt for the Premiership champions.
Duran has already linked up with his new teammates at their training camp in Portugal ahead of the upcoming season.
He could make his first non-competitive appearance for the club as early as next Tuesday, when Celtic face Sporting CP in the Algarve.
The striker began his career in South America with Lusitania before a loan spell with Estrela da Amadora and a move to Portuguese second-tier side Portimonense in 2024.
After just one season with Portimonense, Azerbaijani outfit Qarabag snapped him up in a £300,000 deal twelve months ago, and he proved an outstanding bargain.
He registered 15 goals and 10 assists across 45 appearances, with notable strikes against Benfica, Ajax, Frankfurt, and Newcastle in the Champions League group stages.
Speaking to Celtic TV, Duran said: “I’m very happy, it’s a dream come true to sign for a big club like Celtic, the biggest in Scotland, and I’m just excited to get going and score lots of goals.”
He described his Champions League experience at Qarabag as equally fulfilling, adding: “It was a dream come true playing in the Champions League, that’s what you dream of as a kid, so to score goals was amazing and that’s what I want to continue doing here.”
Duran also spoke about his personal dedication to performing at the highest level for his new club and supporters.
“I give it my all in every game, with a lot of effort and dedication, and hopefully the goals will come,” the Colombian said during his unveiling.
The striker acknowledged the historic significance of his arrival, making him the first Colombian player ever to represent Celtic Football Club.
“It’s an honour to be the first Colombian to play for Celtic,” he said, adding that representing his country at senior level also remains a personal ambition he is working toward.
Duran closed by promising to repay manager O’Neill’s faith through his performances, saying: “It’s a real honour to wear this jersey and I hope that this year we’ll be champions.”
