Rangers are prepared to make Belgian midfielder Nicolas Raskin available for transfer this summer, with newly-promoted Hull City among the clubs chasing his signature.
Former Hull star Mick Brown confirmed the Tigers’ strong interest, saying the club believes a deal for the 25-year-old Ibrox midfielder is achievable.
Raskin caught the eye of clubs across Europe after impressing during Belgium’s stunning 4-1 World Cup demolition of the USA, helping the Red Devils reach the quarter-final.
Sources in Italy indicate that Atalanta and Bologna are also monitoring Raskin’s situation, while reports claim Rangers have already rejected a £14 million approach from Hull.
Despite that knockback, Hull remain confident, with Raskin still having two years left on his Ibrox contract, making this summer a logical window for Rangers to cash in.
Brown told the Hull Daily Mail: “Nicolas Raskin is somebody they’ve identified, and they think he will be available from Rangers.”
He added: “From a Rangers point of view, it might be hard to stop him moving to the Premier League — that’s the big advantage Hull have to use to beat their rivals to deals now.”
Raskin’s performance against host nation USA included an assist for Charles De Ketelaere, and earned him direct praise from Real Madrid and Belgium goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois.
Courtois said of his international teammate: “Raskin is really very prominent, a real driving force. He is present in the box, but is also back in his own penalty area.”
With Raskin potentially heading for the exit door, Rangers boss Derek McInnes faces the prospect of rebuilding his midfield ahead of what promises to be a demanding season.
Bologna’s Lewis Ferguson has emerged as a primary target, with the Scotland international attracting considerable transfer interest from multiple clubs across the continent.
Italian newspaper Il Resto del Carlino reports that Ferguson is set to hold talks over his future with new Bologna boss Domenico Tedesco in the coming days as speculation intensifies.
A potential swap deal involving either Raskin or Connor Barron has been floated in Italian football circles, though significant transfer fees are expected to complicate any arrangement.
Former Rangers scout Neil Murray believes Ferguson fits the profile of player the club should be targeting, saying: “It’s not necessarily superstars or extravagant footballers, committed characters are also important because it just keeps the standard high in a dressing room.”
Murray drew on his scouting experience at Ibrox to illustrate the point, referencing past signings such as Carlos Bocanegra, Dorin Goian, and the club’s long-standing admiration for Gareth McAuley as examples of the leadership qualities Rangers have historically prioritised.
