Former Queen’s Park chief Marijn Beuker is facing the axe as Ajax’s football director following the emergence of alleged inaccuracies in his LinkedIn profile.
Dutch publication De Telegraaf claims that Beuker is “on the brink of being sacked” and will discuss his position with the club next week.
The Dutchman left his role as Director of Football Operations at the SPFL side Queen’s Park in November 2023 to take up his position in Amsterdam.
Ajax endured a deeply frustrating campaign last season, cycling through three different managers while finishing fifth in the Eredivisie.
The poor showing meant the Dutch giants had to settle for a spot in the Europa Conference League next term, a significant step down for a club of their stature.
Beuker is reportedly being held jointly responsible, alongside former technical director Alex Kroes, for what is described as a lacklustre £43 million transfer splurge last season.
One deal under particular scrutiny is the £10 million signing of Kasper Dolberg from Anderlecht, a move that famously blocked Celtic from landing the striker in the final hours of last summer’s transfer window.
Dolberg started just 12 times last term and spent most of the campaign playing second fiddle to Dutch veteran Wout Weghorst, netting only five goals throughout the season.
Ajax are now said to be ready to offload the frontman in a cut-price deal, with FC Midtjylland reported to be keen on the struggling Danish striker.
The club is also said to be investigating whether Beuker’s contract can be terminated over what De Telegraaf describes as “inaccuracies on his embellished CV on LinkedIn.”
Current technical director Jordi Cruijff is understood to be overseeing transfers at present, while Beuker has been shifted to focus on the club’s youth academy operations.
The situation represents a dramatic fall from grace for Beuker, whose move to one of Europe’s most storied clubs has unravelled in remarkable and deeply unusual circumstances.
