Wouter Vrancken has been officially appointed as the new Hearts manager, stepping into the role vacated by Derek McInnes at Tynecastle.
The 47-year-old Belgian has signed a two-year deal with the Edinburgh club, ending a search that involved interviews with several candidates.
Vrancken arrives with strong recent credentials, having guided Sint Truiden to third place last season while also scooping the Manager of the Year award.
The appointment follows a week of interviews that also saw former Feyenoord assistant Rene Hake and ex-AZ Alkmaar boss Maarten Martens spoken to by the Jambos hierarchy.
Vrancken will not be making the journey to Gorgie alone, bringing trusted assistants Tim Smolders and Cederique Tulleners with him to the Scottish capital.
The pair are expected to be formally confirmed as part of Vrancken’s new-look coaching setup at the club in due course.
Current goalkeeping coach Gordon Marshall is also set to continue in his role as part of the incoming backroom structure.
The new manager was unveiled after players reported back to the club for the first day of pre-season training on Thursday morning.
Attention now turns quickly to competitive action, with Hearts facing a crunch Champions League qualifier against Sturm Graz next month.
Vrancken has just under four weeks to prepare his squad for the first leg showdown, which takes place in Austria, making the appointment an urgent one for all involved.
The stakes could hardly be higher for the new manager, who faces a high-profile European test almost immediately after taking charge of the Tynecastle club.
Hearts supporters will be eager to see how the experienced Belgian shapes the squad ahead of what promises to be a defining few weeks for the club’s season.
