Rohl has spoken openly about his departure from Rangers, citing a natural connection with RB Salzburg as the driving force behind his decision to leave Glasgow.
The 37-year-old German coach has signed a three-year deal with the Austrian Bundesliga club after a turbulent and short-lived spell at Ibrox came to an end this summer.
Rangers will receive around £2 million in compensation following the agreement, with Rohl wasting no time as he took his first training session with the Salzburg squad on their return to pre-season.
Rohl was brought in last October to steady the ship at Ibrox following the departure of Russell Martin, and he initially impressed by dragging Rangers back into the title race.
However, his side’s sudden collapse with five games remaining in the season severely damaged his standing with the Rangers support and ultimately sealed his fate in Glasgow.
Rohl admitted: “Yes, I think the task in Glasgow was also difficult. I stand for brave decisions. I stand for brave football.”
He made clear that Salzburg’s identity and ambition were central to his choice, stating: “That’s why Red Bull Salzburg is just the right fit for me, for us, for my team.”
Rohl also pointed to sporting director Markus Mann as a decisive factor in his move, saying: “Markus Mann really convinced me of the idea how we want to perform, what we want to do.”
The former Sheffield Wednesday manager spent nine years within the Red Bull football network earlier in his career, beginning at RB Leipzig, and views this appointment as a homecoming of sorts.
“There is a connection when you have worked for Red Bull for nine years,” he said, adding that the organisation stands for “a good organisation, for a clear identity.”
Rohl has been brought in to replace Daniel Beichler, who oversaw a disappointing campaign that saw Salzburg finish third behind Lask and Sturm Graz last season.
He is eager to restore the club’s winning tradition, saying: “I think the last three years there has been a lot of hunger again here at the club. And that’s exactly what I feel in me.”
Rohl added: “I always know Salzburg is famous for offensive, brave football. That’s also why I’m really happy to be back. That’s exactly the way we want to take the team.”
He also took a moment to acknowledge his former club, saying: “At this time I must also say thank you to Rangers, who agreed to it in the end.”
Rohl has been joined in Salzburg by former Rangers first-team staff member Sascha Lenze and analyst Tristan Steiner, though his Ibrox assistant Matthias Kaltenbach remains in Glasgow for now.
Mann confirmed the deal had effectively been agreed for around a week, noting some complications along the way but expressing relief that everything was finalised in time for Rohl to lead training.
“Everything has been signed on time for him to take training this morning. And that’s the most important thing,” Mann said.
