Rangers have reportedly entered the race to sign Excelsior defender Casper Widell, according to leading Swedish outlet Expressen.
The Ibrox club have moved quickly in the summer transfer window following their disappointing third-place finish in the Premiership last season.
Rangers have already secured the signing of Hearts captain Lawrence Shankland, with manager Danny Rohl understood to be targeting further additions.
Dundee’s Luke Graham and Motherwell midfielder Eliot Watt are both said to be firmly on the club’s radar as potential summer arrivals.
Rangers have also been linked with Djurgarden winger Oskar Fallenius, and the club are now said to be keen on his compatriot Widell.
Expressen report that Rangers are the latest club to declare an interest in the 23-year-old Swedish defender, who joined Excelsior from Helsingborgs IF three years ago.
The former Sweden U21 international will reportedly be allowed to leave the Dutch club this summer if an acceptable offer is received.
Widell, whose older brother Melker plays for Swansea City in the English Championship, is approaching the final 12 months of his contract at Excelsior.
Blackburn Rovers and Derby County have also been credited with interest in the defender, meaning Rangers face competition to secure his signature.
The pursuit of Widell comes amid a broader recruitment push, with Dundee boss Steven Pressley warning that any deal for Luke Graham will not come cheap this summer.
Pressley’s club rejected a £1.5 million bid from Portsmouth for Graham back in January, and the manager has made clear the player will not leave on the cheap.
“There’s a lot of interest in Luke from here, England and abroad,” Pressley said, outlining the level of competition for the Scotland U21 international.
“It’s difficult to see him here next season with the amount of clubs interested in him. But we’re in no rush to sell.”
“I understand if we get to the valuation we will sell him, I know that. The big thing is, for clubs like us to function properly there needs to be really good outcomes in terms of the fee.”
