Juventus have entered the race to sign Andy Robertson, threatening to derail Tottenham’s long-running pursuit of the Liverpool left-back this summer.
Robertson, 32, said an emotional farewell to Anfield on Sunday after nine years at the club, confirming his departure on a free transfer.
Tottenham had appeared to be the frontrunners for his signature, with advanced discussions between the two parties reportedly ongoing for several weeks.
Transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano reported that a deal between Robertson and Spurs had been close to completion before Juventus made their move.
Romano revealed the sudden twist on X: “Tottenham have been in advanced talks for weeks with Andy Robertson over free transfer, deal close.”
He continued: “Juventus have also entered the race and trying to hijack the move with a proposal. Decision up to Robertson now.”
The intervention from the Italian giants has significantly complicated what appeared to be a straightforward transfer conclusion for Tottenham.
Robertson now faces a major decision between staying in the Premier League with Spurs or joining one of European football’s most historic clubs in Turin.
Juventus may not stop at Robertson, with reports also suggesting they hold interest in Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker ahead of next season.
Unlike Robertson, Alisson still has one year remaining on his Anfield contract, meaning Juventus would need to agree a formal transfer fee with Liverpool.
Alisson has reportedly expressed a willingness to move to Turin, where he would link up again with former Roma manager Luciano Spalletti.
Juventus are exploring the possibility of adding Alisson to their squad as part of a significant summer recruitment drive ahead of next season.
A successful double signing of both Robertson and Alisson would represent a major statement from Juventus as they look to strengthen their roster considerably.
For Tottenham, losing Robertson to a continental club after weeks of negotiations would mark a frustrating conclusion to their lengthy pursuit of the Scotland captain.
