Roma have revived their interest in Manchester United forward Joshua Zirkzee, with Italian reports suggesting the Serie A club could secure a deal for between €20 million and €25 million.
La Gazzetta dello Sport reports that Roma believe a move at that price is achievable, which would represent a significant drop from what United originally paid.
Manchester United signed Zirkzee from Bologna in July 2024, agreeing a €42 million fee after the Dutch forward impressed heavily during his time in Serie A.
His arrival at Old Trafford generated considerable excitement, given his technical quality, intelligent link-up play and the versatility he had shown with Bologna in Italian football.
United brought him in as a player who could compete with Rasmus Hojlund and offer an alternative attacking option, but his time at the club has not gone as anticipated.
ESPN’s statistics show Zirkzee recorded two goals and one assist from five starts and 17 substitute appearances in the 2025-26 Premier League season, reflecting a peripheral role.
His output tells the story of a player who has struggled to establish himself as a regular starter and has not consistently adapted to the pace of the Premier League.
Roma explored a move for Zirkzee earlier in the season, but a January transfer did not materialise, partly due to the managerial situation at United at the time.
Despite that failed approach, Roma’s interest has clearly remained active, and the Italian club now appear prepared to make a formal move during the summer window.
Gazzetta’s report indicates Roma could deploy Zirkzee as a left-sided trequartista, a role that would suit his style and give him more creative freedom than he has had at United.
Zirkzee’s familiarity with Italian football gives Roma confidence that he could adapt quickly, having already proven himself at Bologna before his move to England.
Manchester United secured Champions League football after a strong finish to the season, which gives the club greater leverage in the transfer market heading into the summer.
Under manager Michael Carrick, United face decisions about their attacking options, and Zirkzee’s place in the squad remains uncertain given his limited contribution this season.
Selling Zirkzee for €20 million to €25 million would confirm a financial loss on the original transfer, though United may view reinvesting those funds as the more practical course of action.
