Andy Robertson is set to join Tottenham Hotspur as a free agent after leaving Liverpool at the end of his contract, according to transfer insider Ben Jacobs.
Jacobs confirmed the news on X, stating: “Andy Robertson set to join Spurs now their Premier League status is secure. Agreement in principle already in place.”
The deal had one critical condition attached from the outset, requiring Tottenham to secure their Premier League status before any move could be finalised.
Spurs confirmed their top-flight survival on the final day of the 2025-26 season with a 1-0 victory over Everton, a result that relegated West Ham to the Championship instead.
João Palhinha scored a scrappy first-half goal that proved decisive, ending Tottenham’s relegation fears and unlocking the agreement with Robertson in the process.
Tottenham’s interest in the Scotland captain dates back to January, when injuries on the left side of their defence prompted the club to explore a winter window move.
Robertson chose to see out the remainder of the season at Anfield rather than move in January, departing as a free agent once his contract expired at the end of the campaign.
The 32-year-old leaves Liverpool after nine years and more than 370 appearances, having won the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup and League Cup during his time at the club.
Tottenham, who won three of their last five games under recently appointed head coach Roberto De Zerbi, will compete in the Premier League for a 49th consecutive season.
Spurs view Robertson as the ideal candidate to address a shortage of elite-level experience and leadership within their current squad heading into next season.
De Zerbi now adds a player who has performed at the highest level for nearly a decade, signing Robertson on a free transfer as he begins reshaping his Tottenham squad.
Robertson’s arrival gives Spurs an experienced presence at left-back as the club looks to stabilise and improve following a season that saw them come close to relegation.
