Liverpool have missed out on their latest target.
The reds are expected to go head-to-head with Europe’s best team for major transfer targets this summer. After a slow year in the market, the club plans to revamp the squad ahead of next season. Arne Slot only had Federico Chiesa as a new signing at Anfield this season. He is now expected to work with Richard Hughes to get new faces into the club when the window opens.
In the near future, Liverpool are still trying to sort out the contracts of their top earners. Mohamed Salah and Virgil Van Dijk are yet to commit to new deals. Trent Alexander-Arnold seems to be on his way to Real Madrid at the end of the season.
With the possible departure of three key players, this summer window has now become a priority for the club.

Arsenal close in on signing Liverpool target

Last summer, Liverpool were in the market for a new midfielder. The reds had their eyes set on Martin Zubimendi after his impressive performances at EURO 2024. Zubimendi and Liverpool were in talks, and the saga dragged on for most of the summer. The midfielder eventually decided against the move, and remained with Real Sociedad this season.
Now, it has been reported that Arsenal have swooped in and completed the signing of the Spanish international. The 26-year old is said to be ”expected to join” the gunners when the transfer window opens according to David Ornstein. The fee is expected to be around £50million, and the Spanish international will likely be one of the Gunners’ first signings this summer.
Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth has explained what happened that changed Zubimendi’s destination from Liverpool to Arsenal:
“I’d say that the Zubimendi one is almost definitely going to happen to Arsenal. I just wonder when you look back now to the summer transfer window, Liverpool were all set to sign Martin Zubimendi, and then there was a late change of heart. It’s not been confirmed to anyone, but seeing now, a year later, he’s very, very likely to join Arsenal, was there a late intervention by Arsenal in the summer?”
Liverpool face Everton in the Merseyside derby upon their return from the international break.
