Trent Alexander-Arnold has yet to decide his future amidst a tug-of-war between Liverpool and Real Madrid. The Reds are pushing to convince the defender to sign a new deal but Real Madrid are looking to lure him away from Anfield on a free transfer next summer.
The 26-year-old defender is mulling over his options while Real Madrid and Liverpool compete to convince the player. Liverpool are prepared to offer him a contract that will make him the highest-paid player in the Premier League and Real Madrid are also ready to offer him a massive deal.
Real Madrid have been growing confident about convincing him to move to Spain and will present their offer on his table in January. However, Liverpool still have a key advantage as his preference is believed to be to stay at Anfield.
Alexander-Arnold has prioritised signing a new contract with Liverpool over joining Real Madrid even though he has not made the final decision.
He would only consider signing a pre-contract with Real Madrid if Liverpool fail to meet his expectations so it is easy to ask the question, what’s stopping the Reds?

The former Liverpool winger conceded that interest from Real Madrid would turn anyone’s head and it is no surprise that Alexander-Arnold is considering joining them.
However, he insisted that the defender is the future captain of Liverpool and when the time comes to make the call, he would still choose Liverpool over Real Madrid.

He believes that the equation is simple for Liverpool – just offer Alexander-Arnold a contract that matches the offer from Real Madrid. Pennant stressed in that scenario, the defender would definitely choose to stay at Anfield because of his deep emotional connection with the club.
“When Real Madrid come calling, it can be hard to say no”, Pennant said.
“I think any Premier League player would have their head turned if they had an offer from them on the table.
“For me, Trent Alexander-Arnold is a future Liverpool captain who can have an Anfield legacy similar to Steven Gerrard and Mohamed Salah. He’s probably even already in that conversation.
“It’s a difficult one, but if Liverpool offer him a contract that’s as lucrative as that of Real’s, I think he’ll stay. He’s a local lad who you can tell loves playing for the club, particularly at Anfield. Those are things money can’t buy.”
As the former Red said, if Liverpool are serious about holding on to Alexander-Arnold then they must do everything financially to compete with the offer from Real Madrid.
