Chris Sutton says Arne Slot might already be doing one thing better than Klopp

Liverpool fans have been blown away by the football Arne Slot has on display at Anfield this season.

The Reds are playing free-flowing football and seem to be a little tighter at the back as well. They’re the only team in the Premier League yet to concede a goal after three games.

Their lastest win over Manchester United was close to perfect and Chris Sutton has boldly claimed that Arne Slot is doing one thing better than Klopp.

Sutton said on BBC Radio 5 Live’s Monday Night Club: “I don’t want to go overboard about Liverpool because we are only three games in and they have beaten, with respect, Ipswich, Brentford and an awful Manchester United side. We don’t want to be getting the bunting out yet!

“The most impressive thing is that Slot has come in – understated and cool – and they have slightly changed the way they play as it is not so frantic. They were great to watch under Jurgen Klopp but there seems to be greater control.”

The one thing I have noticed about Liverpool this season is that when they have the lead, they’re still bombing forward in search of more but they’re not over-committing.

And when they do get caught too far up the pitch and are at a numerical disadvantage in transition, they are absolutely racing back to ensure they support and protect the defence.

This means that attackers need to punish Liverpool as quickly as they can to avoid being overrun by the retreating defence.

It’s only three games into the season but the signs are encouraging as Liverpool develop under Slot’s guidance, it will be fascinating where he takes the Reds.
