17-year-old Liverpool star is potentially on the cusp of a breakthrough under Arne Slot

Arne Slot believes Liverpool has got pretty good backups for the regulars

Liverpool could be set to showcase one of their most exciting young talents, Trey Nyoni, during their upcoming Carabao Cup fixture against West Ham.

Arne Slot hinted at the possibility of promoting the 17-year-old midfielder to the first team for Wednesday’s game, following the teenager’s impressive performances during pre-season.

In his pre-match press conference, Slot made remarks that suggest Nyoni may have a role to play against the Hammers, according to Liverpool journalist David Lynch.

The young midfielder delivered mature performances that belied his age, earning him praise from teammates and coaches alike. His most notable moment came during a 4-1 victory against Sevilla, where he scored Liverpool’s third goal with a composed finish.

Academy graduate Jarell Quansah, impressed by the teenager’s finishing ability, described Nyoni as “unbelievable.”

Speaking after the Sevilla match, Quansah said, “He has stepped up this pre-season and showed a lot of quality. You saw that today in the finish, it was unbelievable.”

Nyoni’s confidence and maturity throughout pre-season have not gone unnoticed, and Slot’s comments suggest that the youngster may finally get a taste of senior football in a competitive fixture.

A golden opportunity against West Ham

While much of the attention leading up to the West Ham clash has been on new signing Federico Chiesa, Nyoni could quietly be making his way into the matchday squad.

The Carabao Cup fixture presents an ideal setting for Slot to rotate his squad, giving emerging talents like Nyoni the chance to shine.

West Ham, who are expected to make several changes after a 3-0 defeat to Chelsea, could provide the perfect opposition for Nyoni to gain valuable senior minutes.

Although it’s unlikely that the young midfielder will start, a 30-minute cameo off the bench seems plausible depending on how the game unfolds.
