Trent Alexander-Arnold makes Real Madrid decision

The saga continues between Liverpool and Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Liverpool continue to pursue their goal of lifting silverware at the end of the season. Arne Slot has guided the club to the League Cup final. Liverpool will face Newcastle United at Wembley after they beat Spurs 4-0 in the second leg of the semi-final. The reds have also progressed to the knockout phase of the Champions League after topping the group phase of the new format.

Arne Slot also has his side top of the Premier League with six points and a game in hand ahead of Arsenal. The gunners have also suffered a huge blow in the title race. Liverpool face Everton at Goodison Park in their game in hand, on Wednesday night.

Even though Liverpool have been fantastic on the field this season, off the pitch stuff has dominated the headlines. The club is yet to agree new contracts with three of their best players. Mohamed Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil Van Dijk are all out of contract in the summer. These three players have been the reason Liverpool have been so good this season. Van Dijk has anchored a solid backline, with Liverpool having the best defensive record in the league. Salah is top of the Premier League when it comes to goal contributions, with 21 goals and 13 assists. Trent Alexander-Arnold has also had a great season, after an underwhelming campaign last year.

All three have been linked with moves away. Saudi Pro League clubs tried to sign Mohamed Salah in January. Virgil Van Dijk is also being pursued by some of Europe’s biggest clubs. Trent is still being linked with Real Madrid.

Transfer expert Mike Brown told Mundo Deportivo, that Trent Alexander-Arnold will put talks with Madrid on hold till the end of the season. Brown believes Trent wants to see how the campaign ends with Liverpool and if they will win trophies. The former Manchester United scout has hinted that the reds can still convince the defender to stay at Anfield:

“He won’t decide the end of the season. It will all depend on how Liverpool do competitively between now and May.

“If they can win the Premier League and challenge for the Champions League, they could convince him. But I think he will make them wait,”

Liverpool still have a chance

Earlier last month it was reported that Liverpool made a last ditch attempt to convince Trent to stay. With this latest development, there remains a slight hope that the club can keep their academy graduate. However, winning trophies will not be the sole reason Trent Alexander-Arnold stays. Liverpool will also need to match his contractual demands.
