Liverpool set to "intensify" recruitment of €178,000/week attacker after contract talks stalled

According to Tutto Juve, Liverpool are preparing to "intensify" their efforts to recruit Juventus forward Federico Chiesa after contract discussions with the Italian club stalled.

Chiesa is now on the final year of his deal, which means the Reds may benefit by signing him for a measly £51 million.

With a wealth of offensive alternatives currently in camp, including Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota, Cody Gakpo, and Mohamed Salah, the Italian provides versatility on both sides.

Salah and Diaz's futures remain uncertain, despite their willingness to stay, which has not deterred attention from outside. If one or both go, it is unlikely Arne Slot will allow either to leave until a suitable replacement is found, and Chiesa is one of the names floated recently.

Although, according to SportsMole, Juventus are desperate to maintain the Euro 2020 breakout star, the club is presently attempting to better its financial status and may have to sell several of its prized possessions.

The 26-year-old attacker is a versatile option who has played all over the frontline, usually on the right side in recent years, but has also been charged with leading the line through the middle and playing off the left.

Chiesa first established his reputation at Fiorentina, where he thrived and drew international notice, before establishing himself on the big stage at Euro 2020, which eventually earned his first move to Juventus.

To begin, this was a two-year loan with a buyout clause that was approximately £44 million, which Juventus accepted in 2022 despite him suffering an ACL injury that cut his 2021/22 season short.

Transfermarkt demonstrates his extensive experience in football, in 323 games across all competitions, he has scored 76 goals and provided 52 assists. It's safe to assume that his quickness of finishing, in addition to his flare, make him a well-rounded player.

Kop or Not

The Italian had previously been linked to Liverpool for a sum over £100 million, so for most, the chance to get him for about half of that amount seems like a no-brainer.

But after the big ACL rupture two years prior, I think some people could reconsider because of the potential for more injuries. Personally, I believe that Liverpool is not severely deficient in the winger department and that this is still a gamble at the rumoured £51 million.

Perhaps this money would be better used for an attacking option through the middle. Though no names have been mentioned, Arne Slot is likely aware of the services that current Feyernoord player Santiago Gimenez could provide after a strong Eredivisie campaign in which he contributed towards 29 goals in 30 games.
