Liverpool "enquire" about Chelsea defender

Following the revelation that Al Nassr had opened the door for Virgil van Dijk, there have been speculations circulating regarding his possible successor.

Liverpool "spoke to Chelsea to enquire" about Levi Colwill's availability this summer, according to HITC.

As previously said, several outlets have reported that Liverpool have given priority to signing a central defender during this current transfer window. The Reds have also been connected to Matthjis de Ligt and Leny Yoro.

Colwill, in contrast to the other two possibilities on the table, has a history of success in the Premier League, mostly with Brighton Hove & Albion during a brief loan period.

The Englishman continues to wait to see if new manager Enzo Maresca will include him in his plans, even if Chelsea's position is still that the player is not for sale.

Although he was utilised in both the centre and left side of defence during the last campaign, the Reds will mostly likely use him in middle due to his aerial supremacy.

However, since Kostas Tsimikas hasn't yet made a significant impression, this may also serve as Andy Robertson's ideal replacement for when he's not in the side.

After the 21-year-old's successful loan term, the Reds made an earlier attempt to sign him, but the Blues stood their ground and wouldn't give up their academy graduate.

Colwill keeps proving himself both at domestically and internationally, having represented England at every level from the U16s to the senior team, where he has made one appearance under Gareth Southgate.

Having been with them since he was nine years old, it remains to be seen if Colwill would be willing to leave the West London side. Although there will undoubtedly be some temptation, the youngster could be tempted because of Liverpool competing in the Champions League this campaign.

Like myself, a lot of Reds would be open to sign the 21-year-old, but it all depends on the amount, especially since Chelsea's history of turning down Brighton bids of about £50 million.
