Liverpool can beat Borussia Dortmund with a higher bid for Donyell Malen if they accelerate their plans, according to Eindhovens Dagblad.

The Reds are in the market to sign competition for the mad hatter that is Roberto Firmino and Dutch striker Malen has been heavily linked with a move to Anfield.

In 45 appearances, Malen scored 27 goals and set up 10 more for teammates, according to stats taken from Transfermarkt.

The Dutchman is a natural no.9, using his incredible speed to play on the shoulder and spin defenders before racing in behind.

But he's not a speed merchant, as a Dutch footballer and an Arsenal Academy graduate, he has superb technical ability and is brilliant at linking play together.

This is crucial. While Liverpool play the way they do partially to accommodate Roberto Firmino, who is a natural attacking midfielder, they also do so due to Bobby's sensational ability to let the game flow through him.

Rik Elfrink, well respected Dutch journalist, says that Borussia Dortmund are expected to submit a bid for Malen imminently.

Liverpool have a verbal agreement with the player and his agent, Mino Raiola, but PSV Eindhoven are not obliged to honour it and with Dortmund also in agreement with the player over personal terms, the Reds could miss out on their ideal attacking target.

Both sides are willing to pay Malen a weekly wage in the region of €100,000/week (£86,400) but BVB are in the driving seat - that much is clear.

Eindhovens Dagblad reports that Liverpool are 'still on the fence'. That said, the Reds 'can come in with a higher bid' but will need to do so before PSV reach total agreement with Dortmund.

For Liverpool, it's a race against time as the Germans' 'official offer' is expected soon but hopefully, with fees totalling £17million being received for Taiwo Awoniyi and Marko Grujic, the Reds have received cash injection.
