Liverpool are rumoured to have been looking at the acquisition of Sporting Lisbon defender Goncalo Inacio since last November, and Arne Slot "appears confident" of getting him, according to CaughtOffside.

Despite the speculations that were going around during the January transfer window, the Portuguese defender made the decision to remain faithful to Sporting through the end of the just ended season.

It seems that rivals, Manchester United, are also keeping an eye on the 22-year-old as they prioritise adding at least one defender in light of Raphael Varane's impending exit.

After an incredible season in which he lost only two of a possible thirty-three matches to win Liga Portugal ahead of rivals Benfica and Porto, it is no wonder many have taken notice of Inacio.

In the process, 29 goals were given up, or 0.85 goals per game on average.

Personal terms are not anticipated to be a barrier for the youngster, who is reportedly open to joining the Reds.

However, the question of how much Inacio is worth this summer arises. There have been rumours that the Portuguese man has a release clause worth around £50 million.

Kop or Not?

The speculation about who will step in if and when Virgil van Dijk leaves this summer or next summer is still rife, but one thing is certain: all of the main contenders have excellent defensive attributes and have had outstanding seasons in their respective leagues.

Many may be aware with Inacio's name in relation to Liverpool rumours because he was previously on the Reds' radar due to the rumours that surfaced in the previous window.

In my opinion, if Jurgen Klopp had identified him earlier as a player to acquire, then the former manager did not make many mistakes in his recruitment, especially when it came to the defensively where he brought in Virgil van Dijk, Andy Robertson, and Ibrahima Konate over his time with the Reds.

Thus, it seems to me that the Reds not only desire but may actually need this player given that both Arne Slot and Klopp have expressed interest in the 22-year-old.
