Liverpool Preparing Bid To Sign €90M Teenager Ahead Of His Time

| by Michael Mongie

Liverpool are reportedly preparing to make an opening bid to sign 18-year-old Lille defender Leny Yoro following claims that the Reds are in "advanced" talks with the Ligue 1 outfit.

Last week, French outlet le10sport reported that Liverpool and Manchester United were in advanced talks, a player whose stats have earned him "best in Europe" shouts. In some categories, he even rivals Virgil van Dijk.

His coaches say he is ahead of his age group on something of an "advanced learning curve" and Liverpool have taken notice, reportedly making a move to recruit him amid Jurgen Klopp's need for a new centre-back at Anfield.

According to journalist Ekrem Konur, Liverpool are preparing a bid to sign Leny Yoro. With the Reds reportedly in advanced talks with Lille, they are moving quickly indeed to sign the 18-year-old.

It remains a tricky signing yet, however. Yoro's contract includes a huge £78 million release (€90M) clause which proves just how highly Lille rate the centre-back.

If they're willing to hold interested clubs to that valuation, it seems difficult to imagine FSG or Jurgen Klopp being keen on following through with the negotiations.

Not only is that an absurd amount of money to pay for a teenager, the 2023/24 season has brought with it the breakout of one Jarell Quansah, who seems to be a potentially awesome defender. So far, he has proven to be adept under pressure, calm on the ball, extremely robust in his tackling and ahead of his time in positioning.

The biggest compliment you can pay him is that he doesn't look out of place next to Virgil van Dijk at all.

However, the Reds are in need of a centre-back but they will need to agree a lower fee to make signing Yoro a feasible transfer.
