Gabri Veiga removed from Liverpool transfer list but reach impasse on Romeo Lavia approach

Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Liverpool have removed themselves from the hunt to sign Celta Vigo midfielder Gabri Veiga.

The Reds have faced competition from Chelsea and Arsenal but appear to be ready to move on.

Liverpool are no longer pursuing Gabri Veiga

Reporting for Caught Offside, Italian journalist Romano claims Liverpool will no longer be pursuing Veiga and have turned their attention elsewhere.

“Gabri Veiga could also get interesting [this week], with Chelsea and many other clubs following his situation, though still no official bids have been sent to Celta,” Romano said.

“I’m told clubs feel they can make a deal work with bids below the player’s €40m [£34m] release clause now. For now there doesn’t appear to be a clear preference from the player but really many clubs have looked into it including big names in the Premier League.

“Chelsea are one of them, and there’s also been interest from Man City (who are now focused on Josko Gvardiol), and also Liverpool showed an interest a few weeks ago but are now focused on different players.”

Liverpool stalling on £50M Lavia signing

Liverpool have already added Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai to their squad.

Interest in Romeo Lavia remains, with Neil Jones confirming "talks are ongoing".

He adds: "The real problem Liverpool face in this deal is the price of the player and the price that Southampton want."

The South Coast outfit want around £50M for Lavia and Liverpool are correctly baulking at that fee. The midfielder is only 19 with a single season of professional football to his name.

Having already added two top midfielders to their ranks, there's no reason to rush for Liverpool. They have plenty of time to agree a deal that suits them.

If Lavia ultimatley does not join Liverpool, it would be disappointing but it's clear that the club will not be overspending on a teenager no matter how talented.
