Caicedo to Liverpool is over: Fabrizio Romano claims Caicedo chooses Chelsea

According to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool have been informed by Moises Caicedo that he only wants to join Chelsea.

The Reds have been involved in a turbulent chase to sign the midfielder but have now been dealt a hammer blow.

Jurgen Klopp spoke to the press on Friday morning and he confirmed that his side had agreed an £111 million fee with Brighton but that does no good if he prefers a move to Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea will now look to agree a fee with Brighton but it appears as though Liverpool's short-lived chase of the 21-year-old has come to an end.

It's a devastating blow for Liverpool, who seemed for the last 24 hours as though they were close to an incredible move to reshape their midfield but the Reds' Premier League opponents for this weekend seem to have won the race.

Liverpool's chase of Romeo Lavia stalled while they chased Caicedo but a plan must now be put in place to ensure this setback doesn't cost Klopp and his players for the next year.

Signing Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai remains impressive but without further quality around them in midfield, this season may not be as exciting as it seemed before this breaking news.

This also creates a big problem for Liverpool for other targets as clubs will now know that they have around £111 million to spend.

Klopp is now certain to go into the new season without clarity on what his midfield will look like for the rest of the campaign. It's not ideal and it may well negatively impacts results.
