Bayern Munich ready to cash in on Liverpool target

It has been reported that Bayern Munich have listed Liverpool and Manchester United target Matthjis de Ligt on the transfer market this summer.

As Sport Bild claims the German powerhouses are reportedly ready to cash in on the Dutchman, as they have an excess of choices already at the centre of defence, including Dayot Upamecano, Eric Dier, and Kim Min Jae.

It's no secret that the 24-year-old has been linked to Liverpool in the past due to his lack of playing time under former boss Thomas Tuchel. In pivotal games, such as the championship matchup against the eventual Bundesliga Champions Bayer Leverkusen, he was frequently the one out of favour.

Though, when de Ligt teamed up with former Tottenham Hotspur player Eric Dier towards the end of the season, the matter seemed to fix itself. Vincent Kompany is now reportedly prepared to sell the former Ajax star.

Will Bayern budge?

Since De Ligt is contracted with Bayern Munich through 2027, and considering his age, this gives Bayern Munich a significant advantage over potential buyers. The thirty-three-time Bundesliga champions had already paid Juventus an incredible €67 million in 2022.

He hasn't quite lived up to the expectations at either team, either, even if he showed promise initially while at Ajax. Given that Bayern Munich already have a number of high earners—Manuel Neuer, Thomas Muller, and Harry Kane, to mention a few—it is thought that the team will have little space for negotiations over possible additions this summer.

As a result, in order to improve their budget, they might have to sell before they purchase this summer. Nonetheless, it is anticipated that Kimmich, Neuer, and Muller will depart in 2025.

Other teams competing for the Oranje's signature this summer include Manchester United; De Ligt and Erik Tan Hag were formerly colleagues at Ajax. Given that Raphael Varane is anticipated to leave Manchester United this summer, De Ligt may be a welcome addition for the Red Devils.

Defensive decision for Liverpool

Naturally, it remains to be seen if Liverpool will want to acquire a defender this summer. Joel Matip's departure at the conclusion of his contract means that the Reds are already shorthanded by one player.

They could be another, though, since there have been whispers regarding Joe Gomez's and Ibrahima Konate's futures with PSG links recently.

Additionally, they run the danger of losing captain, Virgil van Dijk, the next season when he is out of contract. It is acknowledged that later in the year, the Reds will exercise their option to sign a new contract. As previously said, the main focus for Arne Slot at this time is incomings.
