Three players Liverpool could sign to replace Andy Robertson

Andy Robertson appears to have regained his place in the Liverpool starting eleven after being in and out of the team in the earlier part of the season. He is again looking solid and has more or less seen off the challenge from Kostas Tsimkas for his place in the team. However, there are suggestions that Liverpool are actively looking to bring in a new left-back as the long-term replacement to the Scotland international. The Reds want the veteran left-back in the squad going forward but they also want a younger option in the building as they do not see Tsimikas as the long-term successor to Robertson.

Rumours are doing the rounds that Liverpool are pushing to bring in a new left-back and have been linked with making their move in the January transfer window itself.

However, according to The Athletic, Liverpool are unlikely to sign a new left-back in the winter transfer window and are likely to wait until the summer transfer window.

Arne Slot doesn’t appear to be demanding a new left-back and is happy with the options he has in his squad for the latter half of the season.

But it is almost certain that the Reds will try to bring in a new left-back next summer who could go on to replace Robertson in the starting eleven in the long term.

Liverpool are looking at several players and here are three players who could end up at Anfield next summer, competing for a place in the team with Robertson.

Milos Kerkez (The top target for Liverpool)

The Hungarian left-back has been turning heads since he joined Bournemouth in the summer of 2023. Current Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes played a key role in bringing him to Dean Court and is apparently leading the charge to take him to Liverpool.

Kerkez has been one of the best left-backs in the Premier League since his arrival and has been hugely impressive in Andoni Iraola’s team over the last 18 months. His performances have attracted the interest of the bigger fishes of the Premier League, including the Merseyside giants.

Manchester United are also believed to be eyeing him but Liverpool are said to be leading the race to sign him. Hughes is a big factor as he already has a solid relationship with the player and his entourage. Kerkez is also prepared to take that next step in his career and is expected to leave Bournemouth next summer.

Bournemouth are expected to demand a fee north of the £40m mark before agreeing to sell him and the price will only go up if more clubs join the race to sign him from now until the end of the season.

Antonee Robinson

The Fulham left-back is one more player who is attracting the interest of most of the top Premier League clubs including Liverpool. He is a key cog in Marco Silva’s team and has been hugely impressive for the Cottagers.

At 27, he can’t be termed ‘young’ anymore but is close to approaching his peak as a player. He is one of the best left-backs in the Premier League and would seamlessly settle into the Liverpool team if he joins them.

Robinson is Premier League-proven, is at the right age and would provide an immediate solution to Arne Slot if he wants a more experienced head as Robertson’s replacement.

He has more than three years left on his current contract and Fulham are likely to demand a massive fee if they are to agree to sell him in the summer transfer window.

Rayan Ait-Nouri

The Wolves left-back is one more player who is expected to move on in the summer transfer window. He will have a year left on his contract at the end of the season and is not expected to sign a new deal.

Liverpool have been linked with an interest in him and Ait-Nouri has also been tipped to join Manchester United who want to sign a player who can play left wing-back.

He is not a top target for Liverpool but the Wolves star is an interesting option for the Reds due to his contract situation. He is a cheaper option than both Kerkez and Robinson but he is Premier League-proven and could slot straight into the team if he moves to Anfield in the summer.
