Liverpool fans are growing weary of all the talk around Trent Alexander-Arnold leaving for Real Madrid at the end of the season on a free transfer.
The club have not made any headway in negotiations over a new contract with the player’s representatives and Real Madrid are pushing hard to sign him next summer.
Alexander-Arnold has been tipped to move on from Liverpool at the end of the season and the player has shown little inclination towards signing a new contract with the Reds.
Liverpool still want to keep him and dialogue is still open between the two sides but for the moment, they seem far away from reaching an agreement over a new contract.
The 26-year-old has been one of the greatest success stories of the club’s academy and Liverpool are trying to appeal to his emotions to keep hold of him.
However, it seems that would not be enough as he has already indicated that his ambitions are likely to take him away from Anfield.
Club worried about losing Trent Alexander-Arnold
Alexander-Arnold has remained silent about the talks over a new deal but has dropped subtle hints about his personal ambition.
He wants to win the Ballon d’Or, which many felt was an acknowledgement that he would want to join a club of Real Madrid’s stature.
According to Liverpool insider Max LFC, Liverpool officials are worried about the state of the negotiations between the club and Alexander-Arnold.
The defender is ready to drag the negotiations into 2025, which sporting director Richard Hughes has been desperate to avoid.
There is no agreement on the wages but the bigger issue is the player’s ambition and he wants the club to show that they want to compete at the top level.
Alexander-Arnold has not won the Premier League or the Champions League since turning 22 and wants to compete for those trophies again.
It seems the negotiations are resting on Hughes and Liverpool successfully selling a vision to the player and his representatives.
Real Madrid have already offered him a mega-deal and are ready to provide him with the platform to compete at the highest level from next season onwards.
