Real Madrid target to push for Liverpool move

Liverpool are planning for a potential future without three of their best players from the Jurgen Klopp era.

Mohammed Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil Van Dijk are all locked in contract negotiations with the Premier League giants. As of January, no new contracts have been confirmed and it looks like Salah, Trent and Van Dijk could end up as free agents this summer.

The trio have played an important part in the best years at the club, winning the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup and EFL cup in recent years. Liverpool are in firm contention for all competitions this season, which would be the best send off for the players.

The Reds are also working on potential transfers to fix squad issues this summer.

With the imminent departure of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Liverpool will need to address the right back position in the near future. However, the club are moving quickly to upgrade the left back position. Andrew Robertson has not performed up to standards over the past year, and has been involved in many defensive errors since last year.

Liverpool could look to Bayern Munich star Alphonso Davies to replace Robertson. The Canadian international is also in contract talks with his club, but is now set to explore his options. A report from Christian Falk has revealed that Davies’ agent Nick Househ has scheduled meetings with top clubs in Europe, including Liverpool.

The 24-year old has been a consistent performer since joining Bayern in 2019, and has established himself as one of the best fullbacks on the continent.

Davies will address urgent need for the Reds

At right back, Conor Bradley has showed immense potential and has stepped up to prove he can replace Trent Alexander-Arnold for the long term. Left back is more problematic, Robertson is on the decline, and Konstantinos Tsimikas has not really nailed down the position.

Davies would provide similar dynamism to Robertson, with his pace a real factor in attack. The Canadian is great on the overlap and has an eye for goal. He would fit Arne Slot’s style seamlessly.
