Liverpool are having a good start to the season, except for the FA Community Shield loss to Crystal Palace. The game against the Eagles ended in a draw as the Reds saw the opposition edge them out in penalties.
Captaining the side was the Merseysiders’ target Marc Guéhi, who barely missed out on a transfer to Anfield. Arne Slot now faces competition to get the same defender back, as his contract expiration date has interested a lot of big names.
Real Madrid were among the list of suitors for the English defender. However, Los Blancos have shifted their focus to Liverpool’s own Ibrahima Konaté as the Frenchman’s contract will expire next summer.
Guéhi’s contract consists of similar details that Slot is interested in onboarding the defender next summer. Nonetheless, calls from the likes of Manchester City might change the Dutchman’s decision.
Madrid, on the other hand, are no strangers to making deals with Liverpool players. Just last season, they snubbed Trent Alexander-Arnold from Anfield by paying a small fee despite the Englishman’s contract expiration.
As the Spanish giants wanted Arnold to participate in the FIFA Club World Cup, they had to pay a small fee to move his contract to the Santiago Bernabéu, a few weeks before the contract expiration.
Quiz: Can you name the team Liverpool sold these players to?
Xabi Alonso might miss both his right-backs at Anfield

Real Madrid faced French side Olympique de Marseille yesterday as the Spanish giants barely missed out on a draw thanks to a penalty in the 88th minute.
The game ended 2-1 as Kylian Mbappé was the sole scorer for the home side. Unfortunately, for Xabi Alonso, the win cost him more than he’d have expected.
Senior right-back Dani Carvajal was awarded a red card as the defender headbutted opposition goalkeeper Gerónimo Rulli. The Spaniard did apply some force while shoving his head into the goalkeeper’s face.
It was a straight red as the referee decided with the assistance of VAR. Trent Alexander-Arnold, on the other hand, was substituted after the first five minutes following an injury.
The ex-Red damaged his hamstring, and the reactions didn’t look good. If the injury turns out badly, the right-back might miss the trip to Anfield in November.
Carvajal, on the other hand, will only miss Madrid’s next Champions League match for now, but UEFA holds the right to extend a ban following his behaviour in the Spanish club’s last outing.
