Despite a strong run to end last year, Liverpool have not been off to a great start in 2025.
Arne Slot’s side dropped points in a big game against Manchester United in their first Premier League game of the New Year. Liverpool then lost to Spurs in the first leg of the EFL Cup semi-final. The defeat came as a shock to fans, as the Reds had beaten the North London side 6-3 just a few weeks before the game.
Liverpool bounced back to winning ways as they beat Accrington Stanley 4-0 in the FA Cup. The weekend gave Slot the perfect opportunity to rest some players ahead of midweek league games. Slot has done a wonderful job with the team so far, but the Reds boss has hinted that there will be no new signings in the January window.

Liverpool have a big game against Nottingham Forest on Tuesday night. The league leaders will be taking on Forest, who sit in third place after a strong start to the season. The result could be crucial to the title race, with just six points separating the teams.
Ahead of Tuesday night’s clash, Forest defender Morato has said his team are ready to fight for the Premier League title:
“We are in this fight for the title because we deserve to be,” said Morato.
“What we have done already has been incredible – the hard work we’ve put in. Of course, we can surprise people.”
Nuno Espirito’s side have been on a winning streak since beating Manchester United in December. Forest have gone on to beat Aston Villa and Tottenham during their incredible run.
“What Leicester did was absolutely incredible and for us to do the same would be incredible too,” Morato said. “We are on the right track – it’s halfway through the season and there are many matches and five or six months to go.
“We are on the right track right now, better than we expected and we will certainly be there up until the last day.
“I don’t agree [with the doubters]. Each team is different – sometimes experts are talking from having played in different eras.”
Tuesday is a must-win game for the Reds
After opening a nice gap at the top of the table, some unfortunate results have seen other teams capitalize. Tuesday will be a huge test for Arne Slot, as Forest are one of the only teams in Europe to win at Anfield this season.
