Liverpool could enter the transfer market one more time to secure the services of a quality forward who could fix their injury issues.

Barcelona's Memphis Depay has re-invigorated his career since his awful time at Manchester United but is pushing to leave the Spanish giants.

Given they've signed Robert Lewandowski, Ferran Torres and Pierre Emerick Aubameyang in recent years, his game time will be limited unless he moves on.

Liverpool could seize the opportunity to pick up the talented frontman given Diogo Jota's injury concerns and Roberto Firmino in the final year of his deal.

The latest on Depay's contract

Depay, 28, has accepted his Barcelona career is over amid the new signings that have come in this summer in his position.

According to a report from Mundo Deportivo, Depay wants to leave Barcelona on his own terms.

One of his primary conditions is to leave Barcelona on a free transfer as leaving on a free could increase his chances of gaining a lucrative contract at a top side.

He currently earns £158K per week.

His other condition is to join a top club and his lawyers are close to reaching an agreement to allow him to leave as a free agent this summer.

Why Liverpool should target Depay

With a World Cup on the horizon, Depay will be extra motivated to perform ahead of the Netherlands' return to the world stage in November. Given Jota's hamstring issues and Firmino on the decline in his final year - it could make sense.

He offers a versatile threat not much different from the skillset that Firmino offers Liverpool however Depay's background as a winger and attacking midfielder gives him that added value for any side that signs him.

Last season he managed 12 goals and two assists in La Liga and his record at Barcelona is 13 goals in 37 games. However, he did miss 15 games through injury last season.

For a free transfer, you could get a player with experience, quality and versatility to give back-up to Liverpool's front-line and give them an added arsenal in the fight for the title.
