Liverpool open talks to seal final signing - €45M +€5M payment structure required to complete deal

Liverpool have flirted with signing another midfielder this window and recent reports reveal that one of their main targets is available - but at a price.

Linked with Sporting's Matheus Nunes for the majority of the window, the Reds have had positive reports as of today.

The club has already turned down an offer from Wolves with the player being told to wait for a 'big club' to come along.

Having already signed Darwin Nunez and Luis Diaz from the Portuguese top league, Liverpool may be set to re-visit the league for another top player in waiting.

What do the latest reports say?

Having been linked with the midfielder profusely in the last few weeks, the latest reports are a new development.

Record claim that only Wolves have made a proposal at this stage, and Amorim has advised the 23-year-old to hold out for a bigger club.

Whereas Wolves have a strong Portuguese link in their squad, Liverpool offers an elite environment in which Nunes can thrive.

It also helps that they can afford the £38.4million (plus add-ons) reportedly being asked for.

It's likely that Liverpool would need to let a player leave in order for the club to sign him, but the only viable business would be allowing Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to leave.

However, it would be for a player who Pep Guardiola called 'one of the best players in world football' proving it may be a worthwhile purchase.

Would Liverpool revisit the market?

Despite Klopp's insistence in pre-season that Liverpool were all set for signings ahead of the new season, there is still a question mark on the regular availability of his midfielders.

Chamberlain has just suffered a muscle injury in pre-season and Thiago and Naby Keita suffered knocks throughout last season.

The Reds will seemingly rely on youth this season if they don't sign another midfielder, with Harvey Elliot, Curtis Jones and new signing Fabio Carvalho set for regular minutes throughout the season.

If Liverpool could secure Nunes in this window, they would have a player for now and for the future.
