Watch: Liverpool's £50M target score unstoppable long shot amid many reports linking him with a move

Liverpool's £50M midfield target fired in an unstoppable long shot over the weekend which should excite fans ahead of a potential move.

Matheus Nunes has recently been heavily linked with a move to Anfield as Liverpool ponder another summer signing.

Currently, the squad is rife with injuries, especially in midfield, which has fuelled rumours of a move for the Portuguese international.

Just as the rumours continue to manifest, the midfielder reminded everyone precisely what he is capable of at the weekend with his unstoppable long shot against Rio Ave.

Nunes' long-shot success against Rio Ave

Sporting got back to winning ways with a 3-0 win against Rio Ave thanks to a brace from Pedro Gonçalves and a screamer from Matheus Nunes.

The Portuguese reigning champions have begun the defence of their title with a 3-3 draw away at Braga and a 3-0 win over Rio Ave at home.

Nunes assisted in the opening game and scored from distance at the weekend; a perfect start to the season for a player wanting to keep his stock high.

With a World Cup on the horizon, as well as Champions League football, this could be the year he breaks out as a key target for next summer - that's if he isn't signed by end of the current summer window.

Matheus Nunes latest reports on potential move to Liverpool

Latest reports have suggested that Liverpool are still monitoring Matheus Nunes and still possess a serious interest in signing him.

Liverpool insider Dean Jones stipulated to GiveMeSport that: “There’s definitely been some feeling around Portugal that Liverpool might make an offer.

“Liverpool have had scouting reports on this guy and Manchester United have actually been linked too, but neither of those have pushed forward at the moment.”

He's already rejected a move to Wolves and West Ham as he holds out for a Champions League-level club.
