'Ticks a lot of the boxes': James Pearce says strong relationship could help Liverpool land €50million attacking target

James Pearce says that a strong relationship with Red Bull could help Liverpool if they sign Christopher Nkunku from RB Leipzig.

The 24-year-old was linked with a move to Anfield by a rather unreliable source to be fair as Fichajes from Spain suggested that the Frenchman is being eyed up by the Reds as an option to replace Sadio Mane.

Nkunku is enjoying his best season to date in every sense.

He's got 17 goals and 12 assists but he's maturing in just about every area of his game as he's moved on from the ball hog that he was at PSG to the total package that Domenico Tedesco has turned him into this season.

He's still utilising his incredible close control and dribbling to draw defenders in while his pace and agility make it easy for him to burst past him but his newfound ability to keep things simple is what has taken him to the next level.

As we covered yesterday, Fichajes claims that the ‘possibility’ of signing Nnunku from Leipzig “is getting bigger and bigger for a €50m fee” as Sadio Mane’s contract nears its expiry in June 2023 with a contract extension yet to be agreed or reported as being on the table in the near future.

Speaking in a Q&A for the Athletic, James Pearce responded to a question from a fan about the attacking midfielder but denied any knowledge of serious interest from the Reds but that could change between now and the summer.

He said: “He ticks a lot of the boxes when you look at his profile.

“Relations between the clubs also good. Not aware of any serious interest at this stage.”
